The Lodge

The Historic Tamarack Lodge & Cabins is situated in a spectacular scenic mountain valley in the midst of the Montana Rockies. The Main Lodge, originally built in 1907, was updated in 2003 and retains its original over-sized natural stone fireplace and lodgepole pine architecture, while providing modern amenities and 3400 square feet of rustic charm.

‘The history of the Lodge was so interesting it made us feel like we went back in time.’

The Lodge was originally located by the train station in Belton (now West Glacier), and served as one of the first visitor centers for Glacier National Park.  Passengers alighting from the train at Belton would find themselves welcomed by the lodge as they awaited directions and transportation to their lodging.

When West Glacier school district was formed, the lodge was sold and moved by its new owner, log by log, to its current site.  A true labor of love, it was re-constructed and continued to serve visitors to the area as an inn.  The lodge features strongly in the memories of the older members of our community in its many forms.  Throughout the years it has offered its unique blend of hospitality as a dance hall, a restaurant, and even a roller skating rink.  It’s history of hospitality is as old as the lodge itself.

‘I stayed for four nights, and was consistently surprised and impressed with the accommodations and the service. My room was incredibly comfortable, with beautiful exposed beams and a comfortable bed. Everyone who worked there went well out of their way to help me find interesting hikes, restaurants, and activities. I would strongly recommend this to anyone coming through the area.’

The lodge was sympathetically restored in 2003 and has been remodelled during 2013 to provide four lodge rooms on the upper level. Enjoy the classic ambiance of mountain living with all the modern amenities you would expect.

Our Glacier National Park themed lodge rooms each have attached bath, handcrafted furniture and lofted ceilings.  Our Deer Lodge Room has one queen bed, sleeping up to two.  Our largest lodge room, the Grizzly, sleeps up to five with two queen beds and a daybed.  The Bison and Moose Lodge Rooms each have two queen beds, sleeping up to four.  The Grizzly and Moose Lodge Rooms are located at the front of the lodge and share a balcony, making them a great option for groups of up to eight travelling together.

‘Staff were very knowledgeable of the area and Montana as a whole. They were able to provide activity ideas for me and my family of 2 kids to experience.’

All our guests are free to relax in our Great Room and enjoy the ambiance of the lodge throughout their stay.  The lodge is stocked with maps and guides of the area, a library of books and toys, a coffee bar and a gift shop .  Front Desk staff are fully trained to advise you on all aspects of your stay.

The lodge is also the perfect venue for intimate wedding ceremonies or the renewal of vows.  Many couples have made their commitment in front of our original stone fireplace and we would be happy to arrange great rates to accommodate your guests either within the lodge, or in our cabins.

We can also accommodate family reunions, corporate retreats and other group events.  Let the lodge play host, or make use of our all-weather pavilion for outdoor entertainment.

Regardless of the weather, season, or activity there is always a warm welcome and spectacular scenery. With Montana’s Rocky Mountains as your backdrop, the Historic Tamarack Lodge and Cabins will provide you with the perfect setting for your next family vacation, corporate retreat, or weekend getaway.
