Glacier Snowmobiling

October 29th, 2012 by teresa

In order to preserve its pristine wilderness, motorised vehicles are not permitted in Glacier National Park.  However, there are many snowmobiling adventures to be had in our area, all of which offer outstanding views, varying degrees of difficulty and a great ride!

The Canyon Creek trailhead takes you right to the summit at Whitefish Mountain Resort with views across the Flathead Valley and across Glacier National Park into Canada.  This trail has it all – from alpine forests to deep powder bowls – and connects to a number of trails beyond Whitefish Mountain so you can tailor your trip to suit every need. Enjoy spectacular views of Glacier National Park whilst supping a hot toddy before heading back to your accommodation at the Historic Tamarack Lodge and Cabins, or follow the trail on for a longer adventure.  The choice is yours.

Don’t forget your discount!  All guests of the Historic Tamarack Lodge and Cabins enjoy 10% discount off snowmobiling trips when you book with Swan Mountain Snowmobiling.

Winter Lodging in Glacier National Park

October 26th, 2012 by teresa

It’s beginning to look a lot like Winter in Northwest Montana…time for cozy nights in around the fireplace, hot cocoa and watching the snow fall.  Whilst Glacier National Park stays open year round, the lodging within the Park closes for the season.  The big lodges located throughout the Park are not equipped to handle the cold temperatures.  We say lucky us!  Not only are we able to say we can provide insulated and heated units to provide lodging ALL year round, we also plow our facility for your convenience.  This means that, whilst many snowbirds fly the nest for the season, we get to stay and play and share the beauty of Glacier National Park with all our guests!

Located only 8 miles from the West Entrance to Glacier National Park, we discount our rates through the Winter to provide you with affordable accommodation that will ensure you are cozy and comfortable.  Come and join us in the Lodge and share your adventures … we’ll keep the home fires burning.

Snowmobiling vacation

October 18th, 2012 by teresa

Swan Mountain Snowmobiling is pleased to offer guests of the Historic Tamarack Lodge and Cabins a 10% discount on snowmobiling the Desert Mountain trail system.  Located between the Hungry Horse Reservoir and the Great Bear Wilderness, near Glacier National Park,  Desert Mountain contains over 25 miles of marked and groomed trails on the Flathead National Forest as well as some of the most incredible views in Glacier Country and is known as one of the most spectacular trails in Northwest Montana. The easy, groomed trail steadily climbs to the summit of Desert Mountain (6,368 feet in elevation) where guests look out over Glacier National Park, the Hungry Horse Reservoir and the Great Bear Wilderness.

Play hard on the sleds, then relax with a hot toddy in the main lodge or on the private deck of your cabin accommodation. We look forward to welcoming you to the area and introducing you to miles of trails and unsurpassed vistas of our winter wonderland!

Winter Vacations in Glacier National Park

October 7th, 2012 by teresa

The first snow of the season is already falling in Glacier National Park and we are excited for the snowpack to build enough to have fun!

Glacier National Park stays open year round, and throughout the Winter  ranger-guided snowshoe tours and wildlife talks are only part of the Winter activities available.  Experience the beauty of Glacier’s trails in Winter by cross country ski.  Maps of the most popular trails are available here.

Snowmobiles are not permitted within the Park, however spectacular views of the Park are available from the many groomed trails in the gateway area, Flathead National Forest and surrounding areas.

The Historic Tamarack Lodge and Cabins remain open year round to enable our guests to experience the beauty of Glacier National Park in all four seasons.  Each has its own particular beauty and Winter is no different.  With pristine snow, sunshine and mild temperatures, our little corner of the Montana Rockies provides the perfect escape for vacationers seeking a real Winter Wonderland.

Whether speeding through the tall pines on snowmobile or appreciating the silence of a snowy trail on skis, make the Historic Tamarack Lodge and Cabins your base camp.

We’ll keep the home fires burning while you enjoy your Glacier National Park winter adventure.
