HIstoric Tamarack Lodge

100 yr old lodge and 22 private cabins, 8 miles from Glacier National Park

Summer 2014 in Glacier National Park offers an outstanding family vacation opportunity.  If warm summer days, cool mountain evenings and sunsets that go on forever sound like the perfect backdrop for you then look no further!  Montana is not known as ‘Big Sky Country’ for nothing.  Deep blue skies frame the snowy mountain peaks, and nights of a thousand stars are best enjoyed toasting smores around a campfire.

At the Historic Tamarack Lodge and Cabins, we know the main attraction is the beauty that is our backyard.  Our job is simply to ensure that your daily needs are taken care of so that you can sit back and enjoy it.

Comfortable cabin and lodge room accommodation is carefully designed with our guests’ needs in mind.  The classic ambience of mountain lodge living is evident in our furnishings and attention to detail, such as wooden floors, handcrafted furniture and Glacier National Park themed artwork.  Modern amenities include daily housekeeping, wifi, satellite tv and iPod docks to ensure your comfort and convenience.

A selection of outdoor games such as volleyball, tetherball and horseshoes are available along with outdoor grilles, picnic areas, a covered pavilion and fire pits.  If that’s not enough to persuade even the most reluctant outdoor enthusiast, our llama Star and the Beaver Ponds located behind our property are added attractions popular with all our guests.

Whether you are just seeking a soft pillow and warm bed for a night along a carefully planned out road trip, an experience immersed in the history of the Glacier National Park area, or room for all the family to spend an extended vacation , we can meet your needs.

Book today to ensure your lodging choice and come and enjoy mountain hospitality in the Montana Rockies this summer.

We look forward to welcoming you to your home away from home!

Fishing and hunting in the Flathead Valley

Fishing and hunting are two simple words but they describe the passion of millions.  Montana is a hunting and fishing paradise.

Hunt elk, whitetail or mule deer, bear or cougar in the Bob Marshall Wilderness, antelope on short-grass prairies, upland birds in the foothills and moose in the low bogs of our rugged mountains.   When it comes to wildlife diversity and hunting opportunities, Montana has something to satisfy everyone.

The Historic Tamarack Lodge works directly with local guides enabling us to offer fishing trips and hunting packages to our guests.  Ask us about our great rates for a once in a lifetime experience !

If 3 and 9 day hunting and fishing packages are a bit overwhelming, you can always take a guided “raft and fish” day or half day package, or just stay at the lodge and go fishing or hunting on your own schedule.  We are surrounded by the National Forest and many people come simply to explore the area on their own.

The Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks regulate and manage fishing and hunting throughout Montana. Licenses are available from their offices and at most local sporting good stores. Fishing and hunting licenses are not available from the Forest Service. Buy your hunting and fishing licenses online at Online License Sales.

Nearby Hungry Horse Dam is located on the South Fork of the Flathead River about 15 miles south of the west entrance to Glacier National Park and 20 miles northeast of  Kalispell, Montana . The reservoir is about 34 miles long and its 23,800 acres offers excellent opportunities for fishing, boating, water skiing and swimming.  Available fish species are cutthroat trout, bull trout and whitefish.  The surrounding mountains are popular big game hunting areas and several of the smaller tributaries have their headwaters in nearby alpine lakes.  The area is managed by the Flathead National Forest.

Flathead Valley Activities

March 16th, 2013 by teresa

20sWhilst we are thrilled that we are located so close to Glacier National Park, we don’t want our guests to miss out on experiencing the rest of our back yard.  Glacier National Park is a tiny million acres of wilderness in comparison to the 2.4 million acres of the Flathead National Forest.  For guests seeking backcountry adventures beyond the constraints and crowds of the national park, the Forest offers many, many opportunities including three areas designated wilderness areas.  The Bob Marshall Wilderness is probably the most well known of these three, offering camping and fishing and an absence of motorised vehicles.

Within a 30 minute drive of your accommodation at the Historic Tamarack Lodge and Cabins is the beautiful Flathead Lake, the largest freshwater lake west of the Mississippi.  The 27 mile long lake has camping spots and boat launches around its periphery.  Take a drive around the entire lake stopping off at places of interest on your way.  Dip your toes in the crystal clear water at Yellow Bay or Lakeside, enjoy a meal at one of the restaurants overlooking the water, or shop for antiques and take an art walk at Bigfork.  Cherry orchards line the east side of the lake and cherry season is a must!  Don’t worry if you miss it – there are plenty of locally-made preserves around to enjoy. Eva Gates in Bigfork will even mail them to you!

Whitefish city is another local delight, whatever the time of year.  Home to the outstanding ski slopes of Whitefish Mountain Resort, you can take in the view from the summit whether skiing or enjoying one of the many summer activities on offer.  Enjoy a day mountain biking or ziplining.  Take a walk in the treetops or simply relax and indulge yourself in the day spa.

Movie theatres, restaurants, bars and bowling alleys are all available within a short drive, but we find our guests’ favorite way to while away the evening consists of toasting marshmallows around the firepit whilst watching the sun set in our big Montana sky.

Visit our website to select your lodging choice and book your stay here. We can’t wait to have you join us!
